Murdered mother and son buried in shallow grave in Umzumbe
Two men were arrested last week and appeared in the Highflats and Phungashe courts on charges of murder.
The Mncibi family in KaGubhuza in Ward 12 under Umzumbe Municipality is in shock after two family members were brutally killed and buried on top of each other in a shallow grave.
According to Port Shepstone police, they were called to a scene of a shallow grave at KaGubhuza location in St Faiths on August 15, where the bodies of Rose Mncibi and her son Sibonelo Mncibi were discovered.

The police said that the two were reported missing the day before, and a search was conducted by community members with negative results.
“The next day, the search was continued by community members and a shallow grave was discovered a few metres from the house. The deceased were found tied up and buried. The exact cause of death will be established via a post-mortem examination,” said the police.
They added that two men were arrested this week and appeared in the Highflats and Phungashe courts on charges of murder.
They remain in police custody.

An elder of the family, Thokozani Mncibi, told Fever that they don’t know how they will be able to bury two people at the same time, as they do not have emergency cash.
Mncibi said what is more heart breaking is that the two people arrested are family members.
“When we found my aunt and nephew in the grave, we will never forget what we saw. We plead with anyone who can assist in helping us bury our loved ones to reach out to us,” he said.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Umzumbe Municipality, Bongani Nyuswa, said they will try to assist the family where they can.

“We condemn such crimes. Recently, in Ward 13, a woman was allegedly killed by her lover, who is not from South Africa. After her death, her lover could not be located. In another incident, in Ward 1 near Khanyile Hall, a woman was recently found stabbed to death. To the people of Umzumbe, no matter how ugly the argument, never take the law into your hands, don’t kill another person,” he said.
