Be alert: Fraudsters on the loose in Port Shepstone

Police warn: don’t hand over your ID, phone, or money to strangers.

Local shoppers and social media users are being targeted by clever scams.

Port Shepstone police warn the public after a string of scams recently hit the area.

A 31-year-old woman was duped at a local mall after strangers offered ‘vouchers’ and asked for her ID, phone and store points card – later all her bank funds were gone.

Elsewhere, a man lost money after sending cash to a contact whose phone had been hacked, while another man deposited R15 000 for a vehicle he never saw.

A 59-year-old woman also fell victim to an online scam, sending money to a man claiming he needed funds for an organ transplant.

Police urge the public to:
*Avoid befriending strangers online
*Never share personal info or PINs
*Verify all money requests, even from contacts
*Buy vehicles, pets, and goods only from trusted sellers
* Ignore ‘you’ve won’ notifications or suspicious bank messages

Stay alert, as fraudsters are always finding new ways to steal your money.
