Municipal grader stolen from operator in Umdoni area

Umdoni has confirmed that it has opened a case of theft with Umkomaas Saps.

Service delivery halted and an employee has allegedly been left traumatised after an Umdoni Municipality grader was stolen in the Amahlongwa area last Wednesday.

It has been reported that the suspects threatened the grader operator with a gun.

Umdoni has confirmed that it has opened a case of theft with Umkomaas Saps and is hoping to recover the service delivery-orientated resource, and that the perpetrators are apprehended.

Umkomaas Saps spokesperson Captain Ranjith Rampersad confirmed that a case of theft was registered and is currently being investigated.

Mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli has condemned such actions, and said that such criminal activity placed an employee’s life in danger while regressing the municipality’s progress in advancing service delivery in rural communities.

“We are grateful that our employee’s life was spared and wish him a speedy recovery,” said the mayor.

“However, we are disappointed that certain individuals plot to rob the municipality to enrich themselves and disregard the benefits of these grader services to the development of the communities we serve.”

Anyone with information should either contact the municipality or Umkomaas Saps on 082 3349766 or 039 9733103.
