Armed robbers sentenced in Scottburgh

The men tied up their victims and fled with cash and cellphones after robbing a business in the Industrial Park.

Mzukisi Sikweletsi (20) and Fano Ngqangqa (35) have each been sentenced to 12 years’ direct imprisonment for armed robbery.

On July 8, 2023, the men brandishing firearms robbed a business in the Industrial Park, Park Rynie.

According to police, the men tied up their victims and fled with cash and cellphones.

“One of the men was dressed in dark clothes while the other was wearing a red beanie and a purple camouflage jacket which made him impossible to forget,” said Ugu District Saps.

“Not many people own a purple camouflage jacket, and the duo were arrested in October 2023.”

The case of business robbery was assigned to Constable Werner Botha of Scottburgh Detective Service. The accused made several court appearances after their arrest and were sentenced in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court in August.

Sikweletsi and Ngqangqa were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
