Port Shepstone Hawks nab teacher for firearm

The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Lesetja Senona welcomed the arrest and commended the members for the good work.

A joint police operation led by the Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit has resulted in the arrest of a school teacher for possession of an unlicensed firearm and stolen vehicles.

Hawks members from Port Shepstone, working alongside Crime Intelligence, Sydenham Trio Crime and Durban Metro Police, swooped in on Siseko Ludongeni, a teacher at Dulati Combined School in Magqagqeni location.

Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said police acted on information that Ludongeni was driving a stolen motor vehicle, and they kept the area under observation.

The vehicle was soon spotted near the school and intercepted. A search revealed a 9mm pistol with live rounds, and the car was confirmed to have been stolen in Pietermaritzburg in November last year.

Police then proceeded to Ludongeni’s homestead, where they uncovered a stripped VW Polo hidden in the garage.

Checks confirmed that it had been stolen in the Bayview area near Chatsworth in December 2024.

Ludongeni was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen motor vehicles. The seized firearm has been sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in any other crimes.

He appeared in absentia in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court, and the matter was postponed to Monday, September 22.

The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Lesetja Senona welcomed the arrest and commended the members for the good work.
