Police are investigating.

Phindile Khowa (39) of KwaMadlala is in a critical condition in a Durban hospital after she was allegedly shot multiple times by her husband, Muzi Khowa (46) on April 17.

It is believed that Muzi then turned the gun on himself.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Mgwaza said that Southport police are investigating a case of attempted murder and have opened an inquest case.

Magwaza added the the motive for the incident is unknown as yet.

Muzi Khowa.

Phindile is a police officer at Hibberdene Saps and her husband was a metered taxi owner.

Her father, Marvellous Madlala said his daughter is recovering from injuries to her head, face and body.
According to Madlala, when the family got to the scene his son-in-law was already dead and they called for help, and his daughter was taken to hospital.

Madlala said before trying to kill her, he first assaulted her and beat her up badly.

He also mentioned that their children were in the house at the time of the incident.

Muzi’s family was contacted for comment. His brother Bheki Khowa said he would respond after a family meeting.

However, no comment was received at the time of going to press.
