Lungisani Sithole was released due to insufficient evidence.

A murder case against Lungisani Sithole of Mtwalume, who was accused of murdering Sphesihle Khomo, was withdrawn in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court on June 11, due to insufficient evidence.

Khomo’s decomposed body was found near the Jojo River at Nyangwini three weeks after he was reported missing on January 10, 2026.

Phendulani Khomo, the victim’s grandfather and his family, were in disbelief after Sithole was told that he could go home.

According to the magistrate, the Scottburgh Regional Court stated that the evidence was insufficient, therefore Sithole was released.

The family and their supporters left the court dissatisfied, and with many unanswered questions.

Meanwhile the Khomo family, want to know where Sphesihle was killed and if he was killed using a weapon, so that a cleansing and ritual can be done for him.
