Harding man jailed for rape, murder of girl

After raping the girl, he strangled her with a church belt and left the home.

Lulutho Kwesta Zwezwe (22) from Harding received a 25-year sentence for rape, and a further 25 years for the murder of a teenager (14) in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on April 22.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Zwezwe who was known by the teen, found her at home at Mazekhele Phase 02 on February 14.

After raping the girl, he strangled her with a church belt and left the home.

Witnesses confirmed seeing him leaving the house on the said day.

Police members, the community and relatives of the teen located Zwezwe, who then admitted to the gruesome crime.

The investigating officer in the case was Detective Sergeant Nkululeko Gumede of Harding Detective Service.
