Third arrest in Umzimkhulu policewoman’s murder

Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa was fatally shot at her residence on April 11, 2024.

A third person linked to the murder of Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa has been arrested and appeared in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court.

According to the Hawks, Xolani Ngobese (32) was arrested last Wednesday by the Empangeni Cluster Task Team working together with Richards Bay Saps and the Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit.

Ngobese appeared briefly in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court last Friday, on a charge of murder.

He was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to June 25 for legal representation.

His co-accused, former Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi and Bhungane Hadebe, are due to appear in the Port Shepstone High Court on July 23 for a pre-trial hearing.

Mbanjwa (33) was fatally shot at her residence in Umzimkhulu on April 11, 2024.

In May last year, the Hawks appealed to the public for assistance in locating Ngobese and Sanele Mthembu.

Mthembu was last seen at Dambuza area in Pietermaritzburg, where he was running a tuckshop. He is originally from Bulwer.

The investigation is continuing.
