Tip-off leads to arrest of copper thief in Marburg

Teamwork between a scrap dealer, Lazer 911 and police led to the recovery of copper pipes and cables.

A suspected copper thief (46) was arrested after a tip-off from a scrap metal dealer in Marburg last Wednesday.

Lazer 911 reaction officer Winston Lemon responded and found the suspect in possession of copper pipes and cables.

He was arrested and handed over to Port Shepstone Saps.

According to Ugu District police, a case of stolen property has been opened for investigation after the man was found with copper cables and pipes.

“The owner of a scrap yard contacted police and his security provider for assistance. Police arrived on the scene and arrested the man who has appeared in court. The case has been postponed for a later date.”
