Two men found dead in Mtwalume

Police are investigating.

The bodies of two men have been discovered in Mtwalume in the space of one week.

It is believed that Nhlaka Mnguni and Sbonelo Ncwane were murdered before their bodies were dumped.

Mnguni’s decomposing body was found at an illegal dumpsite in Qoloqolo in Mtwalume on September 22.

It is believed that he was killed elsewhere and then dumped at the site, this after he had been reported missing for several days.

The chairperson of the Mtwalume CPF, Thulasizwe Mkhize, said he was one of the first at the scene.

Mkhize said that initially people tried to identify the body, but they realised that the head had no flesh or hair.

He added that he knew that Mnguni was missing, but he could not be sure if it was him.

He added that there was a bit of confusion as to the gender because the body was swollen and looked like it was that of a woman, until a family member identified that it was Mnguni.

“We ask for people to have a conscience. These incidents keep happening in Mtwalume, and it shows that people no longer have a conscience. No matter how angry you are with a person, do not make hasty decisions.”

Meanwhile, the body of Sbonelo Ncwane was found near Mpisane sports field in Mtwalume on September 27.

It is believed that Ncwane was at a soccer tournament the previous day, had not returned home, and was found dead the next day.

A member of the safety and security committee, Thembinkosi Mahlaba, said that when they discovered the body, they noticed that Ncwane had several stab wounds.

“We could see from the position he was lying in that he fell trying to run. We called the police to the scene. A hammer and a glass were found near him.”

Mahlaba added that such incidents are unacceptable.

“If people stop drinking this much and if taverns close at the set time, some of these problems could be avoided.”

Mahlaba pleaded with the police to enforce the law on tavern owners and to ensure they close on time.

According to Ugu District Saps Communications, an inquest has been opened for investigation at Saps Hibberdene after the body of a man ( Mnguni) was found in Qoloqolo.

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.”

Police also confirmed that the body of a 29-year-old man (Ncwane) was found with stab wounds near a sports ground on September 27.

A case of murder is under investigation, and no arrests have been made as yet.

Nhlaka Mnguni was found dead in Mtwalume last Tuesday.
