Amandawe author publishes first novel

Sihle Msabala has always been passionate about writing.

Amandawe resident Sihle Magnificent Msabala has just launched his first book, Black is Poverty.

The self-published author is a well-known security guard at The Lazy Moose in Clansthal.

He had his book launch at his work premises last Sunday, and is still feeling overwhelmed by all of the love and support he has received so far.

“I have always been passionate about writing and it is something that began at a very young age,” explained Sihle.

“Writing came naturally to me and I found it very important to be able to know how to write and tell a story through words on paper, and I wish that more people could understand this.”

His book is a creative non-fiction piece which aims to raise awareness and prompt the government to re-evaluate policies, particularly those related to social welfare, especially in townships and rural areas.

“Black learners residing in informal settlements lack proper sanitation and are living in extreme poverty, and are often under the leadership of black officials,” explained Sihle.

“The cycle of poverty often begins with a fundamental attitude that can be passed down through generations, preventing the creation of generational wealth. Our current school system prioritises producing workers rather than nurturing inventors and creative thinkers.”

“The future isn’t just a destination we’re heading towards; it’s one we’re actively shaping and the path we take influences both the journey and the outcome.”

Sihle thanks everyone in his life that has helped him achieve the goal of becoming a self-published author and explains that this is all a result of him never giving up on his dreams.

To the youth of South Africa, he encourages all to be persistent in all endeavours.

“Keep the light burning and don’t ever give up on the things that you believe in.”
