Give some ‘fur-love’ this festive season
SPCA asks the community to refrain from purchasing fireworks.
In true festive spirit, some attractive ‘human models’ have come to the aid of the Lower South Coast Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
A week or so ago, the Herald was on the search for some volunteers to be photographed with dogs, puppies and kittens at the SPCA.
It was a pleasant surprise to see the wonderful support – and don’t they all look so fabulous!
However, the hardest and saddest part was meeting all the animals that are desperately looking for forever homes.
The Herald featured just some of the dogs, puppies and kittens in need of good homes.
If you can’t adopt, consider supporting the non-profit organisation in various ways. Petrol to run the inspectorate vehicles is always needed.
Mike Davis, manager at the SPCA, said the society pleads with the community to refrain from purchasing fireworks.
“Fireworks cause extreme stress and fear in domestic animals, livestock and wildlife, which can lead to severe injury or death as the animal tries to flee from the noise.”
Davis also asked for the public to be patient with them during this busy period.
“If you come across a lost animal, please try to keep it in a safe area until we can collect it. Often we get delayed due to the heavy traffic or high call volumes,” he said.
“From us at the SPCA we thank the community for their support throughout the year.”
The SPCA will be open on January 1 for stray collections from 09:00 to 12:00.
For any animal emergency or to adopt, call the SPCA on 083 2226355.
