Steri-drive a massive success

It was an incredible team effort.

A grand total of 121 feral cats were sterilised over a two-day steri-drive held at St Mike’s Beach recently.

This total far exceeded the 80 cats originally planned to be sterilised. The solid two days of tapping, sterilising and releasing the cats was hard, back-breaking work but incredibly rewarding.

Small Paws on the Coast (NPC), South Coast Ferals, Transkei Animal Welfare Initiative (TAWI) and Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) collaborated to make this vision a wonderful reality.

Caroline Botes from Small Paws on the Coast further thanked veterinarians Dr Dave Watson and Dr Lee Pachonick who worked tirelessly through a stack of traps until the very last cat was done.

Dr Dave and Julia Watson make a go-getter team.

“We would also like to specially thank Linda Dunn of TAWI for organising such an awesome event,” said Botes.

The dynamic team of animal lovers worked to ensure the smallest kittens to the big old boys and girls were all given a rabies vaccination, deticked or treated for mange, where necessary.

”We also treated some cats for injuries and illnesses,” said Botes.

She extended further thanks to everyone who supported the jumble sale and jumped in to make this initiative a massive success.
