Devotees celebrate Lord Krishna’s birth
Krishna Janmashtami is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna which was observed on Monday this week.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Port Shepstone Nama Hatta held its annual Krishna Janmastami festival at Marburg Secondary School Hall last Saturday.
Hare Krishna devotees were joined by the Shree Raam Narayan Temple’s and Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple’s bhajan groups.
Swarup Damodar Das, ISKCON’s Durban president, gave the keynote address based on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.
Members of the Port Shepstone Nama Hatta performed a sketch based on the childhood pastimes of Sri Krishna, followed by the women of the Nama Hatta offering a traditional Indian dance.
The evening concluded with a sumptuous meal provided by Pat Gungadeen and his team from Port Shepstone Food For Life.
