After posting video footage of himself holding a gun and captions like “murder on my mind,” a local man is hospitalised and in critical condition after having been shot by the police.

The man, using the name Sean Alting Von Gausau, posted various disturbing Facebook videos prior to a bizarre set of events that preceded him being shot on Monday, August 12.

At the time of publication, the 26-year-old’s real name was confirmed to be Sean Schoeman, although this has not been confirmed by police.

Published on August 15th.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac said it’s believed the man who was treated by paramedics had hijacked a car before he crashed into a police vehicle in Southport.

“When he failed to stop, police chased after the vehicle to a property in Melville. He then rammed the hijacked vehicle into the main gate of the property.”

According to Preston and informed sources, the man was armed with a gun, and apparently an exchanged of gunfire occurred between him and the police after he failed to obey their orders.

“We treated him for gunshot wounds to the lower part of the leg and to the head, before he was transported to hospital by Netcare911,” said Preston.

Hours before this incident unfolded, Schoeman posted video footage on Facebook of him taking a vehicle from a property in Southport, and then driving frantically through the suburb with his mother in it.

The Herald is waiting for an official police report.
