Runners take on 100 Miler in Scottburgh

The race drew talent from across South Africa.

The first Umdoni 100 Miler race took place at Umdoni Park Golf Club recently.

With a 36-hour cutoff, only six of the nine finishers completed the race.

The 100-miler race is an import from the USA, but in metric terms, it is 160km.

In this case, everything was run inside the Umdoni forest and Umdoni Point beach section in laps of 13.3km.

The race drew talent from across South Africa.

In total, 117 runners took part, boosting local businesses and tourism in the area.

In true local fashion, the runners were in top form.

In the flagship Umdoni 100 Miler (160km) race:
– Lindsay Albers placed second in 22:40:38.
– Tyron Seach placed sixth in 34:13:34.

Just to put it into perspective – it is like running a back-to-back Comrades Marathon and on a trail instead of road!

In the Umdoni 50 Miler (80km) race:
– Regan de Souza came in first place in 10:24:18.
– Shannon Parker-Dennison was the first woman home, and third overall in 11:14:13.
– Danielle Turner was the second woman home, and fifth overall in 14:29:31.

This was almost a Comrades distance, but on much tougher terrain.

In the Umdoni 54km challenge, Stellio Coutsides finished second in 7:06:41.

Thanks to the Umdoni Park Restaurant for hosting the race, the Umdoni TT organisers led by Kayleigh and Lindsay Albers and Garth Pellew, the seconders and pacers, as well as KZN Trail running for managing the race-day logistics.
