Water overflow angers St Mike’s ratepayers
Over 30 emails were sent to the municipality to have this water issue sorted but the problem persists.
Residents of Garden Avenue in St Michaels are angry with municipal officials for turning a blind eye to the continuous overflow of water along the road and onto their driveways.
Resident Jaco Mostert said he reported the matter eight months ago and sent about 30 emails to the municipality. The water from the stormwater drainage system overflows onto Garden Avenue and is damaging the road.
“Where this water comes from remains a mystery. Our driveways and road are damaged due to this continuous flow. I have about 15 reference numbers from the municipality. I have spoken to ward councillor George Henderson, and he has also lodged complaints, but nothing is getting done, nor is the problem getting fixed.”
“A few weeks ago, staff from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) arrived and apparently cleared the drain and removed sand from the road. This did not stop the flow, which continues along the road and into my yard,” said Jaco.
However, in response to Mostert’s complaint, the municipality stated that they investigated if any homeowners were discharging water directly into the drainage system, but it seemed there was no infringement.
Mostert now awaits further feedback from the municipality.
