Govt commemorates transport month at taxi ranks

The program targeted two taxi ranks, Izingolweni and Hibberdene taxi rank.

As part of Transport Month commemoration, Government Communications and Information Systems (GCIS), in partnership with government departments under Ugu District Operation Sukumasakhe, hosted a Taxi Rank Information Session. This was to activate communities on government services and how to access them.

This taxi rank activation was meant to communicate key messages and themes for transport month and also to share government information which is rendered by different government departments. This year government also focuses on celebrating 30 years of democracy by communicating the achievements of government which have changed the lives of the people.

GCIS deputy director Khanyiso Seyisi said that visiting taxi ranks is their strategy for communicating with people who usually have no time to attend community events and those who do not see a need to be mobilised to attend government events. “This random communication approach will also ensure that government messages reach each and every person in the community.”

Key stakeholders to this program are Operation Sukumasakhe, Ugu District Disaster Management, Ray Nkonyeni Fire, Rescue and Disaster, Department of Transport and Human Settlement, South African National Road Agency (Sanral), KZN Liquor Authority, South Coast Tourism Investment and Enterprise, Vodacom SA, South African Police Services, Lifeline SA and Investment Enterprise and other stakeholders.
