Port Shepstone Islamic School: Celebrating 30 years of excellence
The institution emerged from the heartfelt aspirations of community elders, who came together on a wing and a prayer to create a nurturing educational environment.

In alignment with the noble teachings of compassion and mercy, the Port Shepstone Islamic School (PSIS) was founded in 1994 as an UMALUSI-accredited independent school. This milestone coincided with the dawn of South Africa’s democracy, marking a new era of hope and opportunity.
“And We have not sent you, O Muhammad, except as a mercy to the worlds.”
(The Quran 21:107)

Humble beginnings
PSIS emerged from the heartfelt aspirations of community elders, who came together on a wing and a prayer to create a nurturing educational environment. Beginning with just two classrooms for Grades 1 and 2, 12 students, and dedicated staff, the school took its first steps on Robin Road, Albersville.

Gratitude to founders and community
Deepest gratitude is extended to the vibrant community for their unwavering support. Their contributions, volunteerism and enthusiasm have been instrumental in the school’s growth. Together, they have cultivated a nurturing environment where learners can thrive. Thanks for believing in the vision and helping shape the leaders of tomorrow. The following African proverb encapsulates the need for the collective effort and support of the community to raise a child – ‘It takes a village to raise a child’.
Milestones achieved
The first matric class graduated in 2002, and since then, PSIS has consistently ranked among the top schools in the district. Many of the learners have excelled in fields such as theology, commerce, information technology, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, business, etc.

Looking ahead
PSIS is committed to embracing change and utilising modern tools to enhance learning and development. Its journey is a continuous endeavour to provide the best educational experience for learners.

Final thoughts
“As we reflect on our journey, we recognise that life is a fleeting experience, akin to resting briefly under the shade of a tree. We must remain mindful of our responsibilities while striving to leave a positive legacy for future generations.
“Let’s work together to create an environment at PSIS where children feel safe and loved, embrace all that is good and wholesome, are encouraged to think, explore, and grow, cultivate their God-given potential, and develop confidence, empathy, and comfort within a multi-cultural society.
“While challenges may seem daunting, remember that we are born to strive, and the reward for our efforts is peace – both in this world and the hereafter.
Inspired by our forefathers’ vision, let us unite to prepare our children for a future we may never see, but one we can help shape through our dedication and love.”
