Hospital introduces waiting time survey tool
Mbethe emphasised the hospital management's commitment to ensuring that employees prioritise patient care.
Port Shepstone Regional Hospital recently introduced a new waiting time survey data collection tool to be distributed to all patients upon entry (except for in-patients).
According to the hospital’s PRO, Phumza Morai, the tool was designed to capture the arrival and departure times of patients at each service point.
She said this will allow the hospital to accurately measure the time patients spend at various stages of their visit.
“The data collected will help the hospital improve service efficiency and ensure a more patient-centred approach. Additionally, this outreach programme provided a platform for patients to share their suggestions, particularly regarding managing queues,” she said.
The tool was launched during a ‘Batho Pele’ campaign.
Morai said the campaign was aimed at reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to quality care.
The hospital’s CEO, Zakanzima Mbethe, addressed patients as they waited to receive their files.
Mbethe emphasised the hospital management’s commitment to ensuring that employees prioritise patient care.
He highlighted that while staff must fulfil their duties efficiently, they must do so with the highest level of respect, dignity, and professionalism towards patients.
“This approach reflects the Batho Pele principle of putting people first, which is central to the hospital’s values. The Batho Pele principles are consultation, service standards, access, courtesy, information, openness, transparency, redress, value for money, encouraging innovation and rewarding excellence, customer impact, leadership and strategic direction,” said Mbethe.
She added that the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital remained committed to upholding the Batho Pele principles and continuously improving patient care and service delivery.
