Police shine at prestigious KZN awards

Four local police officials won in their respective categories.

Police from Ugu District shone at the annual Provincial Service Excellence Awards held at the Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban last Friday.

At the glamorous and well-planned event, police members, support personnel, reservists, community police forums and sports heroes who displayed excellence, dedication and extraordinary commitment to the execution of their daily duties and beyond were recognised.

Several members were nominated for the awards, and four police officials won in their respective categories:

* Lieutenant Colonel Nivi Lutchminarain, branch commander of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) of Margate, was the winner of Best FCS Investigator (Level 8-12).
* Colonel David Nala, acting station commander of Saps Margate, received the award for first runner-up for the Station of the Year.

* Captain Mandla Chiya, commander of Port Shepstone K9, was the winner of the Medium Risk Member (Level 8-12).
* Sergeant Christopher Mahlawe of Saps Scottburgh was handed the Man of the Year award.

Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, said the exceptional achievements of these remarkable men in Ugu have not gone unnoticed as they represented the district.

“I am proud and honoured to be commanding members of such extraordinary calibre,” said Nxamagele.
