The search continues for the man missing man off Margate beach.

Two people are believed to have drowned on the South Coast yesterday (Saturday) while a third person remains missing.

A man and a woman went missing after they were swimming near the Margate fishing pier, a few metres away from the swimming area.

Simon April, spokesman of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, said the body of the woman had been recovered but that the man’s body was still missing.

He confirmed that the matter is now being handled by both NSRI and Saps search and rescue teams.

A separate incident occurred at Palm Beach at 15:46, whereby emergency services responded to a drowning at the main beach.

“Misalinx armed response officers arrived on the scene and found a man deceased on the beach. KZN Private Ambulance, Port Edward SAPS and GP Security were on scene,” Misalinx reported.
