New chapter for Harmony Hill’s Penny Taylor
It's end of an era for rescue haven in Sea Park.
Penny Taylor, who dedicated the last 19 years to animal rescue, has officially sold the farm, Harmony Hill in Sea Park.
As the curtain closes on so many dedicated years of being of service to the South Coast community, Penny looks back on her time on the coast with fond memories.
“There were many ‘ups and downs’, but there were certainly more ‘ups than downs’. It’s been a pleasure to be of service to the community,” she said.
For Penny, there has never been a dull moment running the kennels and helping to rehabilitate and rehome four-legged rescues that were abused, abandoned, unwanted and neglected. And, over the last two decades, she has rehomed hundreds of dogs.
“I will miss being involved in animal rescue and will never forget the dogs I have met – good and bad,” she said.
One word of advice Penny has for pet owners planning to get a dog. “Make sure you and your family choose the right breed of dog for your lifestyle,” she said.
During her time on the coast, Penny ran the Spiller’s Wharf Charity Shop with her right-hand assistant, Thembakazi Ntsetsha.
She also did many outreach vaccination drives to help hundreds of rural pets.
Looking ahead, the boarding kennels will be run by a young couple, Dalyn and Marna Jarman, who have left Gauteng for life on the coast.
Penny and her three Very Important Pets (VIPs), her beloved dachshunds, will now spend their retirement days in Gauteng.
She has great plans to catch up with family and friends, go on tea and lunch dates, watch some telly and relax.
“I have kept every article published in the Herald. Please send me a copy of the article to complete the last chapter of my scrapbook,” said Penny, smiling.
