Service delivery progress noted

Acting municipal manager, Nhlakanipho Kumalo, presented an elaborate report for noting by council on the progress on interventions implemented by management on issues of service delivery and labour.

Umdoni municipality has marked 60 days functioning under section 154 (1) of the South African Constitution, where it is given support by the provincial government to manage its affairs and exercise powers and perform its mandated functions.

Council has since approved a comprehensive service delivery recovery plan aimed at ensuring full strength functioning of the municipality post service delivery disruptions.

Subsequent to the gradual implementation of this action plan, notable service delivery improvements have been made.

During the sitting of Council on November 27, the acting municipal manager, Nhlakanipho Kumalo, presented an elaborate report for noting by council on the progress on interventions implemented by management on issues of service delivery and labour.

The report gave the status quo on interventions on issues of tools of trade, labour, reclaiming of the Scottburgh town hall, state of preparedness for the festive season, improvement of waste management services, verge maintenance, roads and stormwater maintenance, streetlight maintenance, rural maintenance, revenue collection and filling of critical vacant posts.

“The municipality confirms that there has been a significant improvement since the resumption of duties. We have effectively attended to pressing issues of personal protective equipment for employees and procured two additional skip loader trucks in order to effectively meet the waste management demands amongst other administrative deficiencies that have been sorted,” he said.

He also highlighted that there has been a positive reception of the efforts to put Umdoni’s house in order.

At this meeting, it was also emphasized that Umdoni will be extremely stringent in dealing with people and/or situations that seek to derail progress and strengthening of this institution.
