Diamond anniversary for Trevor and Merle
Their great excitement this December is that they are going to meet their first great-grandchild, Hayden.
Trevor and Merle Strachan were married on December 12, 1964 in Richmond. They met when they were 21 years old in Pietermaritzburg at a digs party.
Trevor was born in Kokstad and grew up in the Transkei at a trading store called Mount Hope in the Lusisiki district.
He went to school at Umtata High, then studied to be a chartered accountant and did his articles at Strachan, Douling and Croudace in Pietermaritzburg.
Merle was born in Pietermaritzburg and grew up in Richmond.
She initially went to school in Richmond, then went to Girls’ High in Pietermaritzburg.
Merle studied in Pietermaritzburg and worked at Hathorn, Cameron and Company as a secretary and personal assistant.

Their daughter Kim and son Brett were born in Pietermaritzburg.
Shortly after that, they moved to Kokstad for Trevor to do his articles.
After a few years, he bought the Toyota franchise, which he owned until they moved to Leisure Bay permanently.
They lived in what had been their beach cottage when Trevor retired.
They lived there for 17 happy years, and then 2 years ago, they moved to Munster to Mbabala Lodge.
They have a daughter-in-law, Beth, and a son-in-law, John.
They have six grandchildren, namely Kelly, Lauren, Sean, Gavin, Kyle and Scott.
From oldest to youngest, they are 10 years apart.

Trevor is known for his excellent sense of humour, which he inherited from his father.
He is fluent in isiXhosa and loves to chat to everyone, from the petrol attendants or anyone who happens to walk past their home.
Merle is talented at sewing, knitting, art and many other hobbies; her work is beautiful.
Family members all have jerseys, blankets, quilts and other presents made for them.
Merle loves her friends dearly and has always been the one to check up on them.
They have always shown love and care for their family and love socialising with a wide circle of friends from Kokstad and the South Coast.
