TAKE CAUTION: Level 8 weather warning for KZN South Coast

The South African Weather Services has upgraded the warning from Level 6 to Level 8 for areas along the coast.

A weather warning of widespread showers and thundershowers for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, Umzumbe and Umdoni is expected on Monday (January 6) from midday onwards.

The South African Weather Services has upgraded the warning from Level 6 to Level 8 for areas along the coast.
Level 6 warning will remain in place for the interior.
Rainfall amounts in excess of 120mm are expected.
IMPACTS:
● Flooding of roads, bridges and settlements (formal and informal)
● Danger to life (fast flowing streams/deep waters)
● Major disruption of traffic flow due to major roads being flooded
● Sinkholes and rockfalls
● Disruption to essential services (water, electricity, communication, etc.)
WHAT TO DO:
● If possible, stay indoors and of the roads,
● Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles
● If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground
● In rural areas protect/relocate animals to a safe place on a higher ground
● In buildings, move valuables to a safe place above the expected flood level
● Take caution when traveling on roads as potholes may be filled with water and there may be sinkholes
