Beware of water bill scam
Residents are reminded that water is supplied by Ugu, and should anything like this ever occur, they are advised to contact Ugu directly and confirm if there is an outstanding balance on an account.
Scottburgh’s ward councillor Dana Daniels informs locals of a new scam regarding water bill payments to someone claiming to be a municipal official.
She stated that a Scottburgh resident was contacted recently by a ‘municipal official’ who had been instructed to cut her water due to non-payment.
“He said he was trying to ‘assist’ her by giving her fair warning and provided a method of payment that she could quickly use to avoid the disconnection,” said Daniels.
“The resident contacted me, and in turn, I contacted Ugu to confirm that this was, in fact, a scam.”

Daniels also said that it would be very unusual for Ugu to contact customers via WhatsApp.
