Pothole fixer urges others to take up task

Dinko Govender said using rubble to fill the potholes was a temporary solution.

Umdoni resident Dinko Govender has challenged everyone in the Scottburgh community to fill up at least two potholes each.

Govender filled up six potholes on Bermuda Way in Scottburgh on Sunday.

He explained that he embarked on the initiative because the road is generally busy and is riddled with potholes.

“Scottburgh is my home. Bermuda Way is used by many people daily, including my wife. It is a busy road that also leads to the Scottburgh Country Club. Waiting for the municipality or the government to solve our problems, sometimes, does not help. We cannot sit around and wait, we need to be the solution,” he said.

Govender acknowledged that he did not do the best work when it came to filling the potholes, but he said it would help.

He said he used rubble to fill the potholes as a temporary solution.

“This will minimise the damage to our vehicles, among many other things. I filled six potholes. I challenge everyone in Scottburgh to fill at least two potholes. If everyone takes it upon themselves to fill a pothole, before we know it, there will be fewer potholes and that may also encourage the people in charge to permanently fix the issues at hand,” he said.

Meanwhile, Govender’s initiative was well-received on social media, with some praising him for coming up with the idea.
