Resident fixes potholes in Marburg

A resident took it upon himself and closed several dangerous potholes in Marburg.

Potholes remain one of South Africa’s biggest road maintenance challenges, and on the South Coast, many roads, including those in residential and business areas, are not attended to.

A concerned Marburg resident has expressed anger over the inaction of authorities to repair potholes on Dairy Road and other roads in Marburg. “Despite numerous complaints spanning almost two years, the potholes remain a hazard to motorists. The potholes, which have become a permanent fixture on the road, pose a significant risk to drivers, particularly those unfamiliar with the area,” he said.

Like many South Coast roads, repairs have taken too long, leaving residents to fix up most roads themselves. Tired of waiting for the municipality to repair the potholes, a home-owner along Dairy Road took it upon himself and closed several dangerous potholes last week.

“I filled it up with cement just to provide safety for the drivers until the municipality comes along and does a proper job,” said the resident.
