Shacks destroyed in Sunwich Port

The operation involved the assistance from many role-players.

A successful operation was conducted last week to demolish illegal shacks in the Sunwich Port area.

The new chairperson of the Sector Crime Forum (SCF), Nina de Klerk, thanked all the role-players involved: Law Enforcement, Lazer 911, ADT, Community Police Forum, Southport Saps, and SCF.

Working together are (from left) Barry de Klerk (chairperson of Southport CPF), Leonard Lubbe, Warrant Officer Vicky Latten (Southport Saps), traffic officer Collin Moodley and Ferdinand Grobbelaar (Lazer 911).

“A big shack was built at Sunwich Port beach. This is the second one in Sunwich Port in the last month. The person living there had time to pack and was escorted by police to his home in Kwa Mdladla,” said De Klerk.

Saps Ugu District Communication said the action is guided by the prevention of illegal evicting from unlawful occupation of land Act, 1998 (PIEA).

Sergeant Thembeka Magubane of Southport Saps was part of the operation.

“The objective was to deter land invasions and educate the public about the illegal nature of such structures.”
