WATCH: SAMWU members march to support suspended workers attending case in Durban

According to the union's, Winnie Ngcobo, the outcome will determine if they return to work or not.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality SAMWU members downed tools today to support five suspended workers who are attending a case at the Bargaining Council in Durban today.

These workers were issued with suspension letters in January stating that they were instigators of the unprotected strike that started in October last year.

The regional treasurer for SAMWU, Winnie Ngcobo, says that they are upset and this is how they are showing it (protesting).

“What they are doing to our fellow colleagues is wrong, if these five were wrong that means we all should be charged because we all were here during the protest, it was not just them.”

Ngcobo says another issue is that the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality leadership has not responded to their memorandum even after they had given them seven further days.

“All of this shows that we are still being undermined. Our municipal leadership does not care about us.”

Ngcobo says that they are communicating with their members who are in Durban, and the outcome will determine if they will be going back to work or not.

The workers are meeting again at 14:00 to discuss the outcome.
