Volunteers and vets make a difference

An incredible total of 681 cats have been sterilised since March last year.

It was a successful Mother’s Day for the wonderful volunteer team from Transkei Animal Welfare Initiative (TAWI) at St Mike’s.

The small outreach non-profit organisation continues to work hard and their efforts are paying off, as another 50 feral cats were sterilised.

That means 50 more cats won’t be celebrating Mother’s Day or Father’s Day next year.

An incredible total of 681 cats have been sterilised since March last year.

Linda Dunn of TAWI thanked Glenda Fawbert from Tassie with Love for sponsoring this project.

Dr Dave Watson and his wife, Julia recently helping animals in the Transkei.

“Without you, we would be overwhelmed with kittens, instead last night saw that ‘last’ breeding cat caught in a few colonies,” she said.

She further thanked veterinarians Dr Dave Watson and his wife, Julia and Dr Dave Kenyon and wife, Roenel for sterilising all the cats.

“To all our trappers, transporters and helpers. You are priceless.,” said Dunn.

Last month, on World Veterinary Day (April 27), Dr Watson and the team sterilised eight feral cats, treated a domestic cat and did surgery on a dog to remove a growth.
