A grim discovery was made off Southport beach this week – the body of a fully clothed man was recovered from the backline during a shark drum line inspection.
Port Shepstone Search and Rescue, K9 Search and Rescue, and NSRI Station 20 responded swiftly after being alerted by KZN Sharks Board personnel, who spotted the body while out at sea.
Rescue teams launched a vessel and met up with Sharks Board members to retrieve the body, which was then handed over to Saps Southport.
An inquest docket has been opened. The man is yet to be officially identified, however, police are investigating whether the body is of a person recently reported missing at the same station.
