Nature lovers are invited to celebrate the season of renewal with Spring Win – Walking in Nature at Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve this Sunday (5th).
The event, hosted by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Honorary Officers, promises a rejuvenating day outdoors.
There are two activities to choose from this spring. The nature immersion experience which is not a walk, it’s a ‘sit and feel’ and experience activity. The group will walk about 250m to a spot in the forest, and then sit in nature, turning phones off, and re-aligning the body, mind and spirit with nature. The experience lasts an hour. Bring a towel to sit on as the ground may be damp.
For those seeking adventure, the programme also includes a scenic 9km hike to the breath taking Hoopoe Falls. This is the most popular hike in Oribi Gorge. It’s 4.5km there and back, with a moderate to extreme rating, as there are some places where you walk over boulders and ascend a fairly steep incline. There hasn’t been a lot of rain, so swimming is not advised at the falls due to potential bilharzia risk. Pack drinks and snacks for a break when you arrive at the falls. Registration opens at 08:30, with the walk starting at 09:30. The cost is R50 per person.
After working up an appetite, walkers can enjoy boerewors rolls, tea and coffee, which will be on sale at the venue.
To RSVP, contact Maxine on 071 5176408.
