Whopping 888 feral cats sterilised on the South Coast

TAWI is looking for dedicated feral cat trappers who will be trained, to help weekly.

An incredible 888 feral cats have been sterilised on the South Coast over the past 18 months, thanks to the dedication and teamwork of volunteers from Transkei Animal Welfare Initiative (TAWI) and their partners.

The project began in March 2024, when the team took on the massive task of sterilising Trudie Roets’s colonies of feral cats across the region.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy and that it would take time – what we didn’t know was the sheer number of feral cats we would discover,” said TAWI’s Linda Dunn.

Since then, the group has worked tirelessly, with many volunteers giving their time, energy and resources to make the initiative a success.

Glenda Fawbert from, From Tassie with Love, was praised for her commitment and compassion to the project.

“She never gets to see the full impact she has had on so many little lives, but she deserves recognition for everything she has achieved,” added Linda.

Veterinarian Dr Dave Watson and his wife, Julia, also have been part of this project from the beginning.

“Thanks to the Watsons for their outstanding contribution in supporting vulnerable animals and for their invaluable role at TAWI.”
