It was a historic week for the Scottburgh community when its long-hidden waterfall was restored.

This project, which was started by the Keep Scottburgh Beautiful (KSB) about three months ago, had a grand opening with community members on Sunday (December 14).

Prior to the public event, Umdoni mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli had the honour of being part of an intimate ribbon cutting ceremony.

At this small gathering, the KSB team mentioned how the waterfall was discovered during one of their clean up operations, and after lots of hard work and donations from individuals and businesses, the waterfall received tons of TLC to be restored to its original state from the 70s and 80s.

The goal was to have the waterfall ready for the holiday season, and the team was able to successfully accomplish that.

KSB’s Nico Smit said that the town has a desire to be welcoming, beautiful and safe; and that this waterfall is the ideal feature to welcome everyone and make them feel they like they want to be part of Scottburgh.

“This waterfall belongs to the people of Scottburgh. All we’ve done is fixed it,” said Smit.

The mayor applauded KSB for their work and stated that Umdoni is to establish long-standing relationships with KSB and like-minded organisations to better the community.
