Top matric achiever: Hard work pays off for Ethan Naicker of Port Shepstone

His advice to the class of 2026 is to be consistent.

Ethan Naicker who matriculated at Port Shepstone Secondary is still adjusting to being the top learner in Quintile 4 schools in the country, in the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations.

His outstanding results also secured him the number one spots in KZN and Ugu District.

He earned 7 A symbols, a 96% aggregate, as well as 99% for Accounting and Life Sciences.

Ethan said it was so surreal being called on stage in Johannesburg to receive so many accolades. “I can finally say all my hard work has paid off.”

He added that his motivation came from his family, teachers and friends.

“At times, even when I doubted my capabilities, they encouraged me.”

His advice to the class of 2026 is to be consistent.

“You can become overwhelmed by tests, assignments and orals. By planning and doing a little bit of work everyday, it will help you in the long run.”

He will be studying medicine, specialising in neurology at the University of Cape Town.
