Port Shepstone Secondary’s 2025 matrics shine

Ethan Naicker's accolades are top performing learner in Quintile 4 schools in the country, as well as KZN and Ugu District.

Port Shepstone Secondary’s Ethan Neil Naicker is South Africa’s top performing learner in Quintile 4 schools in the National Senior Certificate examinations.

He earned 7 A symbols, a 96% aggregate, as well as 99% for Accounting and Life Sciences.

He was invited to a prestigious awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Monday this week.

Ethan’s exceptional results also secured him the number one spots in KZN and Ugu District.

He was the school’s Dux Awardee for 2025. His phenomenal scholastic journey can be traced back to his fundamental years when he began paving his pathway towards success. Ethan said that his motivation came from his career-driven family.

During his matric year, he said he took breaks between study sessions to manage stress and familiarised himself with concepts before they were taught at school.

He thanked the principal, Yogavani Chetty, Grade 12 co-ordinator and deputy principal Dennis Naidoo, and deputy principal Charmaine Joseph, management and the team of hard-working teachers who steer learners to reach their full potential often sacrificing afternoons, holidays and Saturdays to avail themselves for extra classes.

He aims to study medicine at the University of Cape Town and specialise in Neurology.

Ethan is wished well for all future endeavours. He has left a long lasting legacy coupled with distinct glory for other students to follow.

Overall, the school attained a 95.4% pass rate. Of the 175 candidates, 125 achieved Bachelor passes, with a total of 168 distinctions. Dux Approxime’ Isabel Naidoo scooped 7 As as well as Bibi Ayesha Gani with 7 As.

Port Shepstone Secondary has made history by being featured on national television three times in the last decade. Such praise and glory is attributed to diligence and determination from the awardees, collaborative support from their families, school management, teachers and the School Governing Body alike.
