Invite to free swimming lessons in Oshabeni
Lessons are offered at Duduzile Secondary, Monday to Friday, from 15:00 to 17:00.
Drowning prevention instructor, Nkazimulo Nyawose, of the National Sea Rescue Institute encourages residents of Oshabeni location to attend free swimming lessons.
Nyawose teaches learners in schools on how to be safe in and around water, as well as what he calls survival swimming.
The free lessons are offered at Duduzile Secondary, Monday to Friday, from 15:00 to 17:00.

“We have a container pool which is five metres long, we train people to move from one end to the other. It’s basically survival swimming, teaching them how not to drown.”
Anyone aged nine and older can attend.
“The pool is not only for the school, but for the Oshabeni community. Our motto at sea rescue is saving lives, changing lives and creating futures, so we are trying to fulfil that.”

He believes that if someone is taught to swim, he can develop and become a lifeguard or an Olympic swimmer.
Nyawose encourages neighbouring schools to join in. The idea is to eventually add swimming lessons to the school timetable.
He is assisted by another instructor, Moses Mbuthuma.
“We want to create a water safe nation, so instead of only teaching people how to be safe in and around water, let’s also teach them to swim. So, if they find themselves in trouble in the water, they are able to stay afloat until they get help.”
