Coins for charity in aid of Child Welfare Port Shepstone well supported

Community generosity makes a meaningful difference to local children.

Child Welfare SA- Port Shepstone extends its sincere appreciation to the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone for successfully hosting the annual Coins for Charity fundraising drive, traditionally held on the first Saturday of the new year at Southcoast Mall and Shelly Centre.

This longstanding initiative continues to be a beacon of community compassion, encouraging members of the public to donate their spare change in support of underprivileged children. Through a unique and engaging method, Rotarians set up collection points where community members “pin” their coins and notes onto adhesive tape, symbolising collective care and shared responsibility for the well-being of children.

The purpose of the Coins for Charity drive is both simple and impactful – to ensure that children in need are able to begin the school year with dignity. Funds raised go directly toward purchasing essential school uniforms, stationery, and other educational necessities, enabling children to attend school confidently and participate fully in their education.

The 2025/2026 drive was particularly successful, with generous support from local businesses and sponsors at Diamond, Platinum and Gold levels. Notable financial contributions, including a R50,000 donation, highlight the strong commitment within the community to invest in the future of its children.

Supporting the fundraising drive are (back, from left) Delvin Naidoo, Mikhail Naidoo, Chanelle Naidoo, Oxolo Langa, Shakira Mitusingh, Cynthia Ngcobo and Cleressa Naidoo, with Dayna Naidoo in front.

“As a direct result of this initiative, Child Welfare Port Shepstone has already assisted 52 children with essential school uniforms and will continue supporting children in need throughout the year. Appropriate school attire does more than meet a requirement, it promotes dignity, confidence, inclusion, and a sense of belonging among learners,” said social work manager, Cleressa Naidoo.

She thanked Rotarians, volunteers, businesses and Child Welfare staff who generously gave their time to make the event a success. Community members interested in volunteering or supporting future initiatives are encouraged to contact the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone or Child Welfare Port Shepstone or call 039 6820073.
