OPINION: Ward 1 residents protest over service delivery frustrations in Port Edward

"I will continue to fight on behalf of residents and ratepayers for improved service delivery" - Clr Stephanie Breedt.

As the DA ward councillor for Ward 1 in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, I have been inundated for months with complaints about the general lack of service delivery in the area.

The issues vary from verges not being cut for more than three months, to ungraded roads difficult to drive down, to overgrown plots not cleared when service requests are submitted. Requests are submitted as required by residents, but are not acted on. I phone managers and heads of departments, and I ask for meetings and meet with departments trying to get the problems resolved.

A resident holds a placard at a recent protest.

On the morning of Wednesday, February 11, I stood alongside a group of residents representing Banners Rest, Port Edward, Leisure Bay, Munster and Palm Beach at the Port Edward traffic lights holding placards highlighting their complaints.

I will continue to fight on behalf of residents and ratepayers for improved service delivery.

Ward 1 councillor
