Business forums to reopen Mzimkhulu River bridge to traffic tomorrow morning
Motorists will be able to use the bridge from 05:00.
The Mzimkhulu River bridge will reopen tomorrow (Monday, March 16) as a result of intervention from business forums operating under Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
These businessmen say that they have suffered astronomical losses since the closure of the lifeline bridge.
A businessman, Tarel Krishna, says many people’s jobs are on the line and residents are spending a fortune to get to Port Shepstone every day.
Krishna says the bridge will reopen to traffic from 05: 00.
Currently, the forums are busy removing the sand filled containers blocking the bridge.
Krishna also mentioned a meeting was held with the mayor of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, Zodwa Mzindle, earlier this morning.
“The outcome was positive. We received news that the reason the contractor closed the bridge again is due to payment issues. People and businesses are suffering, we cannot wait for the end of March for the contractor to be paid. We are doing this for the community. “

Speaking on behalf of the Ugu Association of Business and Transport, Ray Nkonyeni Business Association and Port Shepstone Business Forum, Selvan Chetty, said the decision to open the bridge was unanimously supported by RNM Law Enforcement and Saps.
