BRONWYN TANNER – Tuning In: In praise of our pothole fixers

Community news and events for Pennington and surrounding areas.

We have a wonderful community and constant reminders keep popping up – like the example of Tony Swikkard who took it upon himself to fix potholes in Dolphin Drive, Pennington.

Wishing all Muslim readers Eid Mubarak.

It was world Poetry Day – this is Frances Reynolds’ offering:

My Words
I wanted so to change the world
but since I had no sword,
I took the S from front to back
and changed it into words.
They are the only things I have
to change how people think.
You’ll find them in the air, on screens,
on pages filled with ink.
The words are small, but powerful,
they’re weighted, and they’re strong.
They look for life’s anomalies,
they look for right and wrong.
They speak for earth, for animals,
the wretched and ignored,
and in steadfast persistence,
they’ll do more than any sword.
