Umkomaas author launches free Easter story for young readers
Ekta Somera blends storytelling and modern technology for her Easter release.
Local author and illustrator Ekta Somera from Umkomaas, best known for her book Lilly the Llama Party Drama, is spreading Easter joy with the release of a brand-new children’s story, Lilly the Llama’s Easter Egg Surprise.

In this new adventure, Lilly the Llama follows the sweet smell of chocolate into a whimsical Easter journey filled with bunnies, colourful eggs and plenty of giggles. Designed to spark imagination and bring families together, the story offers a fun and heartwarming experience for children to enjoy at home, in classrooms, or as part of group storytelling.
In a fresh and forward-thinking twist, the story can also be accessed instantly by scanning a QR code. This simple action transforms how young readers discover books and experience stories.
“As children grow up in an increasingly digital world, this approach connects technology with literacy in a meaningful way,” said Ekta.
“It shows that screens can lead children back to reading, not away from it. With one scan, a story opens up, reinforcing the idea that reading remains essential even as formats evolve.”
The release forms part of Ekta’s growing creative universe, Lilly’s World, where storytelling extends beyond the page through comics, animated videos and interactive storytelling sessions at schools and libraries.
Through these experiences, children are encouraged not only to read stories, but to actively imagine and create their own.
“This is my way of giving back and sharing a little Easter joy,” she added.
“I believe stories are one of the most powerful ways to help children fall in love with reading. I wanted to create something free and accessible that families and teachers could easily share.”
