OPINION: Caring doctor goes beyond call of duty

Every concern was heard, every question answered clearly, and every decision explained with empathy.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Dr Vishal Maharaj, who went beyond the call of duty in caring for my in-laws during a difficult time.

In a healthcare environment often marked by pressure and heavy workloads, it was truly reassuring to experience a doctor whose compassion and dedication never wavered. From the first consultation, my in-laws were treated with kindness, respect, and patience. Every concern was heard, every question answered clearly, and every decision explained with empathy.

What stood out most was his willingness to go the extra mile by waiting nearly 15 minutes on the phone with the medical aid call centre to secure treatment approval while my father-in-law was transitioning between medical schemes. His personal follow-ups and constant reassurance brought great comfort to our family.

The professionalism and humanity shown throughout this journey reminded us that medicine is not only about expertise, but also about compassion and care. We are deeply grateful and hope this letter serves as a small token of appreciation for the remarkable work done by this dedicated physician and others like him.
