PROTEST: Truck drivers plan to shutdown N2/N3

According to reports, the protest is over the employment of foreigners.

Truck drivers in KwaZulu-Natal are expected to shutdown national routes this weekend.

The shutdown is planned for Saturday, May 30.

According to reports, the protest is over the employment of foreigners.

It is believed that major disruptions on key national routes include the N2 Richard’s Bay, N2 Mtubatuba, N2 Pongola, N2 Ermelo, N2 Piet Retief, R34 Ulundi, R66 Melmoth/Empangeni, R33 Vryheid/Dundee, N3 Harrismith, N3 Ladysmith, N3 Mooi Rivier, N11 Volksrust, N11 Newcastle/R34 Utrecht and N11 Ladysmith.

In a trending video interview, the secretary general of All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa Gugu Sokhela, said that there are plans for a shutdown.

“We might experience some disturbance, but it won’t be anything big as we have to operate within the boundaries of the law.”
