Heavy vehicles banned from Mzimkhulu River bridge in Port Shepstone

The restriction comes after engineers determined that the bridge cannot safely accommodate vehicles exceeding 16 tonnes.

Vehicles weighing more than 16 tonnes are now prohibited from crossing the Mzimkhulu River bridge, while rehabilitation work continues.

Contractor Yena Uyabusa Trading said the restriction comes after engineers determined during the rehabilitation process that the bridge cannot safely accommodate vehicles exceeding 16 tonnes.

No heavy trucks are allowed over the bridge.

The weight restriction is effective immediately, and all vehicles over the limit must use the designated alternative routes.

The rehabilitation of the bridge remains ongoing, and road users are urged to adhere to the new restrictions to ensure the safety of all motorists and construction personnel.

Yena Uyabusa Trading thanked road users for their patience and cooperation.
