Discover Pennington one step at a time
The walk showcases rich birdlife, stunning beaches, indigenous forests, and the many special places cared for by Pennington Conservancy.
Pennington Conservancy’s Discover Pennington Walk was launched on July 11. More than 80 walkers came out to celebrate the official launch, with the youngest participant being just six-months-old, and the eldest was an inspiring 90-years-old, proving that this walk was for everyone!
Walkers gathered at the Beach Café from 07:15, and the 5km walk began at 08:00. The first groups returned around 90 minutes later, full of smiles and stories from the trail.
According to Mandy van Prooijen from Pennington Conservancy, the Discover Pennington Walk showcases the best of the beautiful village – from the rich birdlife, stunning beaches, indigenous forests, and the many special places lovingly cared for by the Pennington Conservancy.

“It’s a celebration of 40 years of environmental care,” she said.
One of the biggest highlights was crossing the Nkomba River on the pont, where groups of five or six pull themselves across using the rope pulley – an adventure that never fails to bring laughter and excitement.
Along the way, walkers also enjoyed seeing magnificent champion trees, mysterious giant vines, and the optional route across the historic Nkomba railway bridge, with its breath taking views over the lagoon and beach.

“If you missed the launch, don’t worry! You can enjoy this self-guided walk any time. Pick up a brochure from the Beach Café or download the map from our website and discover Pennington at your own pace,” added van Prooijen.
The Pennington Conservancy would also like to thank everyone who helped make the launch a success.
