Unknown man’s body recovered from KZN South Coast river as police seek next of kin

The body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Mkomazi River near Umkomaas on Friday, July 17. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help identify him.

Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying an unknown man whose body was recovered from the Mkomazi River near Umkomaas on Friday, July 17.

Members of Port Shepstone Search and Rescue and K9 Search and Rescue responded on Friday afternoon (July 17) after receiving reports of a body floating in the river.

On arrival, search and rescue teams recovered the body from the water.

The deceased is believed to be an Indian man between the ages of 25 and 35.

His identity has not yet been established, and police are working to trace his next of kin.

Umkomaas Saps detectives have opened an inquest docket and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Anyone who may have information that could assist in identifying the deceased or locating his family is urged to contact Detective K.S. Cele of the Umkomaas Saps Detective Unit on 082 335 0187 or report the information to their nearest police station. Information will be treated as strictly confidential, and callers may remain anonymous.
